Adela Garcia – “A Life of Leadership”

In the We Made San Diego August 2025 Podcast, you will have the opportunity, to learn about a woman in our community who has not had an easy road but has stayed on course to help our community achieve and move forward. Who is this person? Her name is Adela Garcia, she has worked in many ways to open the door for Latinas/os. She was a little girl when her parents immigrated to San Diego. Adela was blessed to have a wonderful mentor in Father Brown. Though Father Brown mentored thousands of young people his influence on Adela can not be measured.

Adela was the first Latina hired by IBM. She faced many hurdles. She was fortunate enough to have 3 women that helped her move forward. Adela refers to these women as her Black Angels. To this day she acknowledges the support of these women who changed her future. Adela also had other women that talked to her about dressing more professional. They all touched her future.

Adela’s pride and joy is the Latina Leadership Conference. Why is this conference important and has it made a difference in the life of Latinas? As you listen to this podcast you will have to decide the answer. You will learn about how supporting each other has made a difference in the San Diego Community. Adela’s values also include her family and the importance of being there for them and for them to be there for you.
